Introduction to the “Abandoned society” Erik Tabery launched his new book in Bratislava

On Thursday, September 28, 2017, we hosted Erik Tabery in the premises of Artforum bookstore in
Bratislava. Tabery’s overview of his new book “Opustěná společnosť” (Abandoned society) was
followed by a Q&A session.

New book “Opuštěná společnost – Česká cesta od Masaryka po Babiše” (Abandoned society – The
Czech journey from Masaryk to Babiš) is a scope deep into the conscience of the Czech nation. As
Slovak nation, we shared a common faith and state with our Czech compatriots for majority of 20 th
century. We should be thankful to the common state, which protected our survival in the turmoils of
hatred, violence and lies of world wars and totalitarian regimes. Erik Tabery reminds us of ideas of
great leaders such as T. G. Masaryk. The book is on point especially as we will celebrate a centenary
from the establishment of the First Czechoslovak Republic next year, in 2018. We perceive this
anniversary as a unique occasion to re-new and reflect our understanding of the notions that shaped
our inter-wars safe heaven.
Thank you all for your participation in the event.
